Gun = Death

On one of the darkest days in our history I have to ask, is today the day we realize guns are nothing more than tools of death? I don't blame the gun, but absolutely nothing good has ever come from putting a gun in anyone's hand.

If you equate freedom with guns, you are the problem.

For you to think that any form of gun control would have stopped the massacre is insane. This guy was going to do damage with whatever tool he could use. Consider the death toll if he decided to use a BOMB instead of the guns.

Yes, and consider the death toll had he used a baseball bat instead of guns.

You can't say with any sort of certainty that Cho would have massacred people no matter what. However, I can say with 100% certainty that without access to guns, no one would have been shot at Virginia Tech on Monday.

OOO - Jim. Gonna have to disagree with you on that. Guns are twice as likely to be used to stop a crime or save a life than to be used for crime. You can dredge up article after article where some one was stopped from killing another person by a private citizen.

I guess if he had a knife vs a gun the toll would have been less, but we have been killing one another since we first realized a rock could bash in a skull. The passion to commit evil will forever be in a some people.

Lets just assume all guns disappear. Gone. (not outlawed, as criminals don't follow gun laws as it is, and they would still have them. Japan and Britain both have armed criminals still). In areas where handguns especially are outlawed, like in Britain and Australia, you have seen a surge of violent crime. They turn to bats, or more popular still are knives and now swords and even crossbows. There is talk in both Australia and Britain of banning swords. Sticks and stones are next on the list.

As you point out, the hunk of metal has no life of its own and is completely neutral. But it is the great equalizer. Lets look again at Britain. You have 3 thugs bust in your house with bat and/or knives. What are you going to do? The only way to level a playing field is a firearm. What about a 100lb women being assaulted by a 250lb man? A snub nosed .38 is her best retort.

Guns get a bad rap, but there are millions of owners who use theirs daily with no one dieing. In fact you are more likely to have an accidental death if you have a pool in your back yard than if you own a fire arm. As the recent at for an insurance company pointed out, CARS are the #1 killer of teens.
