She's a Parrot... Ha!

Here are the three best political videos of the campaign season so far. Yes, 2 out of 3 are anti-McCain/Palin. But, at least they're not the same old SNL skits everyone else is stuffing your inbox with.

Why can't we have a candidate like Mos Def. It's complete bullshit the I have to vote for McCain or Obama.

Hayden Panettiere knows about creepy old men.

Sorry, Michael, you are no longer the world's funniest Palin. Does John Cleese have a parrot fetish, or is it just my imagination?

Two Weeks Left

I love politics. Both parties are in complete panic mode. With Democrats running around trying to find out how much Sarah “Well, Heck” Palin is paying for all the designer clothes she’s been wearing ($150,000) and Republicans trying to find out if Michelle Obama may have said “Whitey,” we are at the most pivotal point in each of the campaigns. Here’s all I’ve gotten out of the last 18 months:

McCain - Palin
1. John McCain is not George Bush, fights against his party by voting with them 90% of the time and does everything but deny being Republican.

2. Sarah Palin is just like you and me, which means she knows she’s not competent to hold the office of Vice President of the United States.

3. John McCain is suffering from the same character assassination that plagued Bob Dole. Remember Bob Dole?

4. The only Republican that will claim George Bush was a good President is Stephen Colbert. And lean in so I can tell you a secret… Stephen Colbert is not a real Republican. He’s just pretending.

Obama – Biden
1. Barrack Obama has been overhyped in the media. He’s going to have to make some hard decisions if he becomes President, and he doesn’t have a lot of experience making hard decisions (just to be clear, neither does McCain).

2. Joe Biden is a loose cannon. He’ll make a good VP, but no one wants him in the Oval Office. He’s kind of like a less funny Dan Quayle. Remember Dan Quayle?

3. Too many celebrities have lined up to support Obama. There is a tipping point. Celebrities have become irrelevant… unless you’re a fifteen year-old girl. In which case, you can’t vote.

4. Obama – Biden have incorrectly used fear mongering during their campaign. No one is scared of the environmental and economic collapse. People are scared of terrorists. Didn’t 9/11 teach you anything? (Too soon?)

So, that’s my assessment of what the candidates offer. Sad, isn’t it? Anyway, good luck in the voting stall. I know whom I’m voting for. But due to the Help America Vote Act, I’ll probably be wiped from the register and have to vote via provisional ballot (or “trashcan” ballot as I like to call it).

Blog Action Day: Poverty

Today is Blog Action Day! What, you've never heard of Blog Action Day? Well, neither had I until this morning. But once I knew the topic was poverty, I had to get on board. As always, some of you are saying, "Twisted, you don't do community service and you don't suffer from poverty. WTF?"

You're right. I don't do community service and I am not impoverished. I also don't have AIDS or live in a third world country or want for anything. It's part of being a middle-class white man in America. I was born into it, which makes me extremely, EXTREMELY fortunate. Not a day goes by when I don't stop and think about how lucky I am to have the life I have. But today is not about thinking about how lucky I am... it's about giving to the people who haven't been as lucky. So, here are 88 Ways to DO Something About Poverty.

Good luck!

Voting for the VP... Really?

As most of you know, I am not really what you call politically active. I vote, and then generally bitch until the next election. But this year I have taken a more active role in politics. That is, of course, if you believe active can be defined as an increase in being overly critical of our system as a whole and making fun of the people involved. Some of you may say this is no different than what I do every election year. But this year I've started to live-Tweet the debates. Twisted Wife thinks this a complete waste of my time, but I've found it makes the debates much more exciting. I am actually engrossed in what the candidates say so I can make accurate jabs in 140 characters or less. It's a lot less fun than the multitude of drinking games that have cropped up around the party's talking points, but it keeps me entertained and involved.

In other political news, I have said that I am not voting for the presidential candidates this year, but instead their successors. Reason being, both McCain and Obama have worse-than-average odds of completing a single term. I'm not saying they won't make it four years. I'm saying that McCain is on borrowed time and Obama may stir up prejudice this country hasn't seen since Rodney King crossed paths with the LAPD. So, I'm left with the decision between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. As I look at that last sentence, I'm in as much disbelief as the rest of you. What has America been reduced to when my choice is between another Washington Dinosaur and the Alaskan Maverick (if you consider charging women for their rape kits bucking the system)? Are these the most Vice-Presidential people left in America? Really?

I guess I'm not alone, wishing that a person of genuine conviction would rise from the shit we call American politics and lead this country to peace and prosperity. Unfortunately, I'm starting to believe that person only exists in the minds of the silent majority, and our belief in that mythical person is what has gotten us into the mess we are in. Our economy, our domestic well-being, our foreign relations... our entire democratic system is on the verge of dying because the silent majority refuses to make the problems go away. I'm sure the problems of the day have already been solved by someone sitting on their sofa watching these caricatures of American leadership blah, blah, blah their way through soundbite after soundbite hoping to garner one more vote... for what? For four more years of ridiculous bullshit?

I say this every four years. Vote for a mixed ticket. Government grid-lock is the only way to tie the hands of the people who are not qualified to lead this country. I don't care if you put a Republican in the White House again. Just make sure you put Democrats in Congress. We need to stop these monsters in Washington, make them accountable to the people they represent and invoke true change in this country.

And now I step down from my soapbox... until tomorrow.
